"One day it just seems to hit you when you are looking in the mirror and you see yourself, not how your mind perceives your appearance but rather, plain and simple, how you really look. You see the deep wrinkles, the sagging skin, the pudgy jowls; and your eyes so encroached by their surrounding tissue it makes you wonder how you can even see. You start to pull cheeks back and lift this and that up... only then do you begin to see yourself again.
You begin to wonder how your friends and family see you, everybody knows you’re getting older and everyone seems to accept it. So do you! Then you ask yourself, if it hasn’t already smacked you in the face, what do my fellow workers think? Basically, I would get the standard you look good for your age song and dance.
Frankly, I didn’t want to wait for anything worse to be said as there is a lot at stake not only to me from a personal standpoint but my employment as well, particularly so in today’s job market.
I’ve worked in the Law Enforcement community all my life, a police officer in Washington DC for 23 years and my last 17 years have been in the security field working for the US Government. My mission; the protection of people, information and property.
So the question bears; how do you convey to an individual that you are capable of protecting them? How do you establish that sense of confidence in those people you are protecting? Do you feel that your appearance has diminished your own confidence and or self-esteem? Perceptions are everything!!
Throughout my life I have controlled my weight and exercised regularly in order to maintain a decent physical appearance. For the last 3 or 4 years I received Botox injections. Although quite helpful, they are somewhat limited as to what they can actually do overall.
Finally, persuaded by my wife who has some personal experience in this area, I went for a consultation at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, Virginia. I met with Dr. George Weston and discussed the surgical approach that would best suit my needs.
The consultation with Dr. Weston was very enlightening. Step-by-step, Dr. Weston went over every facet of the procedure telling me what to expect and what the desired results would be. I was totally convinced that this was my way forward to a new rejuvenated me. Dr. Weston relieved me of all my fears of being turned into something that I was afraid, would not look like me – something I describe as that "wind tunnel" look.
I have to admit, I thought the surgery would be far worse than it turned out. Upon waking up in the recovery room, I found my head wrapped like a Q-Tip but I felt fine. I experienced no pain or nausea. When I got home I ate dinner and watched TV for several hours – I really felt pretty good. The very next day I returned to Dr. Weston’s office and all the bandages were removed. Immediately I knew the surgery was exactly what I wanted.
Frankly, throughout the healing process I didn’t experience any pain merely some minor discomfort from the staples. When I would wear glasses, it was sometimes difficult to keep them from resting on the staples behind my ears. I could feel the staple prick me from time to time. That was it; I was truly amazed, I had some swelling and very little bruising. Unbelievably, I was out having lunch with my friends in less than a week and back to work within three weeks…two weeks would have been enough.
The results are fabulous!! Dr. Weston did an amazing job. The look was subtle yet just the right touch to relieve me of the sagging skin, wrinkles and the overall tired aging look…He gave me "life" again; a fresher more youthful appearance. My family and friends were amazed at the results and to this day still can’t believe how well everything turned out.
My confidence and self-esteem couldn’t be higher. I feel more capable than ever to meet any and all of life’s daily challenges, demands and pressures of my work, and equally important I feel confident my colleagues feel the same. I no longer feel like the old man on the block."
"I am back in the mainstream and I love it!!"
