Facelift / Neck Lift / Cheek Lift
Northern Virginia, Maryland & Washington, DC

The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery located in Reston, Virginia, specializes in facial surgery, including facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty and neck sculpting for Northern Virginia, Maryland & Washington, DC.

The best results in cosmetic surgery are often achieved through a combination of procedures. This is especially true in rejuvenating the face where different procedures used in combination often look best. Tissues sag as we age, so lifting brows, redraping eyelid fat and skin, elevating cheeks, and tightening the neck and jowls all work well to fix different drooping areas. As we get older tissues also thin, so fat or other fillers are usually a good idea. Finally, the skin itself can take a beating from the sun or smoking, so resurfacing it may be necessary.  Some or all of these procedures can be combined in skilled hands to tailor an individual rejuvenation.  Read on to learn about the components we use at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery.

The facelift handles the neck and jowls.  Perhaps it should have been called a "neck/jowl lift," after all, your nose is part of your face and a facelift doesn’t get near the nose (or the eyes, mouth, or ears for that matter).  But the name "neck/jowl lift" probably wouldn’t have caught on, and so it’s called a facelift.

A facelift is done from incisions around the ears and you can mimic it by pulling your skin in that direction.  Try it and you’ll see the jowls get tighter and the neck skin move up.  You may also see the cheek move and the fold around the mouth soften, but be careful.  While a facelift’s effects can be felt to some degree in the cheeks and it can soften the fold around the mouth some, you may need a procedure called a mid-face lift to truly help in that area.

At the Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, each of our surgeons does about three times as many facelifts a year as the average plastic surgeon.  Over many years that adds up to a lot of facelifts and it’s allowed us to refine and perfect our techniques.  Most patients are back to work in two to three weeks with good make-up.  At that point, swelling and bruising are minimal.  The scars around the ears are well hidden and continue to improve to the point of near invisibility over the next few months.

You can see actual patient before and after photos in our Before and After Photo Gallery.
